Hello everyone, today I will discuss whether the word "the"is a linking verb or not.
A linking verb is that type of verb that doesn't express action.Besides,a linking verb function like a equal sign.
●He is a student.
Here,He=a student
Here "is" is a linking verb because it is expressing the alternative introduction of he by a student phrase.
Now look at the following example:
●The school is beautiful.
Explanation:
In the above example,the word "the" is not a verb.You can say that here "the" is a determiner because it is specifying the noun school.
Actually,we cannot use "the" as a verb but we can use "the" as a determiner ,which is special kind of adjective.So,the word "the" is not a linking verb.
Now look at the following example.
●The sooner, the better.
Explanation:
Here the word "the" is an adverb.
Adverb+Adverb=An adverb can modify another adverb.
