Today  we are going to know whether "a" is an adjective or not.


First,we would llike to say about adjectives.An adjective is a part of speech that comes before a noun to modify that noun.



Look at the following example:


●He is a  boy.


●He is a good boy.


Here the word"good" is situated before  the noun" boy" and is modifying the noun "boy".So,accoding to the definition of adjective, the word"good" is an adjective.



Now again look at the following sentence:


●He is a good boy.


●He  is a boy.



Here,we have to know whether" a" before  the noun "boy" is an adjective or not.To take decision whether "a" is an adjective or not,we have to know the classification of determiners.




The types of determiners are given below.


1.Quantifiers:few,more etc


2.Possessives:my,our,etc.


3.Demonstratives:this,that etc.


4.Articles:a,an the.



Now consider the following example:
●He is a  boy.



In the above example,'a' is an article determiner.As 'a' sits before the noun boy.,we can say that the article 'a' ultimately is an adjective.All determiners function as an adjective.You can say that all determiner are special types of adjective.
