Hello everyone, today I will discuss whether the word "for"is a verb or not.
A verb is that type of word that express action.Besides,a verb must have a subject and predicate in a sentence.
●He is going to the market for buying some mangoes.
Here "for" is not a verb because it is not expressing any action but here "for" is a preposition because it is making relationship between the verb "is going"and noun "mangoes".
Now look at the following example:
●He gives me a book for my student.
Explanation:
In the above example,the word "for" is not a verb.You can say that here "for" is a preposition because it is making relationship two nouns-book and student.
Actually,we cannot use for as a verb but we can use for as a preposition and conjunction.So,the word "for" is not a verb.
